General Information

The airport manager with overall responsibility for all airport operations is David Blackman who has been manager at Kirkwall since March 2005.

Originally involved in air traffic control in the UK and Australia, David has been involved in airport operations and management in various places including Lydd, Plymouth, Biggin Hill and Carlisle.

Latterly David was training controllers in Cwmbran in Wales and is authorized by the CAA to conduct written and practical examinations leading to the grant of a CAA Radio Operator’s certificate of competence required to provide an air ground radio communications service. Dedicated members of David’s team includes;

· Air Traffic Control

· Motor Transport

· Airport Administration

· All aspects of airport operations

Terminal operations are managed for David by Neil Thain of Key Facilities Management. Neil has been in post since the new terminal opened in November 2001. The central point of terminal operations is the information desk which provides various services for HIA including;

· Landside contracts and concessions

· Immigration,customs and landing fees

· Airport and Airline liaison

· All I.T. including flight information and webcams

Loganair operations are managed by General Manager, Michael Morrison who joined in September 2006 from the Orkney and Shetland Touring company. He is directly responsible for

· BA/Loganair Terminal operations

· Loganair aircraft engineering

· Sales and marketing

· Public relations and customer services
